Shivaji Rao Gaekwad (screen name Rajinikanth)(born on December 12, 1949)is a popular Tamil film actor. He is the highest paid actor in India.
Rajinikanth was born in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu as fourth child in the Marathi family of Ramabai and Ramoji Rao. He lost his mother at the age of five. He had his schooling at the Acharya Patasala in Bangalore and then at the Vivekananda Balak Sangh, a unit of the Ramakrishna Mission. Before starting his career in the film industry, he served as a bus conductor for Karnataka State Transport Corporation in Bangalore. It was during this time that he nurtured his acting interests.
Kamal was born in the family of Srinivasan and Rajalakshmi as the fourth and youngest child. His father gave all three of his sons the suffix of "Haasan" as a sign of his friendship to one Mr. Haasan. Kamal entered the film world as a child actor at the tender age of 6 in the film Kalathur Kannamma and has been associated with the film world since then. Kamal learnt the fine arts in his early years instead of school work. As a teenager, he started working as an assistant choreographer in movies and it was during this time that his long and fruitful association with notable Tamil film director, K. Balachander began. A film buff, Kamal is regarded as a trendsetter by many.
Ajith is the middle son of three children, born to a Sindhi mother and Malayalee father. Ajith dropped out of Asan Memorial Sr. Sec. School in 1986 to become a part-time 2/4-wheeler mechanic and full-time garment exporter based in Erode till 1990.[citation needed] Business exigencies pushed him into modelling for adverts in print media which eventually paved the way into Tollywood and later into Tamil films. After his surgery for a broken vertebra he lost feeling in his legs, but he vowed to recover and walked all the way from his home in Madras to the Balaji Shrine in Tirupathi in Andhra Pradesh. He was romantically linked to fellow actress Heera and met future wife Shalini on the sets of Amarkalam in 1999.
Gemini Ganesan was born on 17 November 1920 at Pudukottai in South India to Ramaswami and Gangamma. The family was a middle class smartha brahmin family belonging to the Mulukanadu subcaste. Ganesan was the only male heir to his family. His grandfather Narayanaswami and aunt Muthulakshmi were the source of inspiration for Ganesan in early days. Education of his grandson was the most important priority for Narayanaswami. When he was at an early age, Ganesan's education was initiated in grand style: he was sent to school on horseback, preceded by a band playing music. The teacher made him write the alphabet “a” in Tamil language on a silver plate with a gold coin. Ganesen’s father Ramaswami was a handsome man with curly hair, who took great care of his looks, hairstyle and attire. An expert in playing the mridangam and the flute, Ramaswami was interested in arts and music. Although Ramaswami did interest himself prefunctorily in the family farms, it was grandfather Narayanswami who took care of the family. When Ganesan was in 6th class, he lost his much beloved grandfather; later, his father Ramaswami also died. Now Ganesan with his grandmother Bagirathi and mother Gangamma migrated to Madras to live under the care of aunt Muthulakshmi Reddy. Ganesan’s mother Gangamma did not take to city life. She settled down in Pudukottai. Ganesan's aunt, Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, was a follower of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa; she admitted Ganesan into the Ramakrishna Mission home at Mylapore. There, he learnt Yoga, Sanskrit, read about Vedas, Bhagavad gita and Upanishads. Life here taught him discipline; Ganesan became an expert in Yoga. However, separation from his mother being too much for him, he went back to Pudukottai and joined high school there.
His end came at 22 March 2005, 13:30 IST at the age of 84 in his residence after a prolonged illness. He was cremated with full state honours. He is survived by eight daughters and a son. His children are: Dr. Revathi Swaminathan; Dr. Kamala Selvaraj; Ms. Narayani Ganesh; Dr. Jaya Shreedhar; the film actress Rekha; Ms. Radha Usman Syed; Ms. Dhanalakshmi Sapru; Ms. Vijaya Chamundeswari, and Mr. Satish Kumar.
His father is Mohan, an editor, his mother is Varalakshmi. He has one brother, M. Raja, who is a successful director, and a sister, Roja, who is a dentist. Ravi was first schooled at Jawahar Vidyalaya in Ashokknagar, Chennai and later at the Loyola College, Chennai and earned a Bachelor degree in Visual Communications. He studied dancing with the Bharatnatyam dancer [[Nalini Balakrishnan and performed his arrangetram (debut) when he was twelve years old. He has also undergone training in acting with Kishore Namit Kapur Institute, Mumbai.
Madhavan's parents are Ranganathan and Saroja and he has a sister named Devika. He is married to Sarita, and they have a boy - Vedanth.
He was born at Nawalapitiya near Kandy, Sri Lanka, to Maradhur Gopalamenon and Satyabhama. After his father's death, MGR settled with his family at Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu. He could not pursue his studies beyond the primary stage due to poverty and hence joined a drama troupe. Gaining considerable experience on stage, he entered the world of cinema, and gradually rose to enviable positions by persistent efforts and endurance. He became an actor, with a huge mass appeal. He was also a very good director and producer, and was also known to be an expert movie editor. He was married to Janaki Ramachandran in 1949 and did not have any children.
In 1987, MGR fell sick and was rushed to the U.S. for treatment. Mass hysteria gripped Tamil Nadu and over 100 people attempting self-immolation. MGR died December 24, 1987 after his prolonged illness. Over two million persons followed his remains, around 31 followers committed suicide and thousands had their heads tonsured. He was posthumously awarded the "Bharat Ratna" by the Government of India. After his death, his political party, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, split between his wife Janaki Ramachandran and his long time companion and political protege, J. Jayalalitha. He willed all his property for the welfare of the poor and hearing impaired people of Tamil Nadu.
Born in a Brahmin community, the son of Brahmin Madhwa parents, Krishna Rao and Rukumani ammal in Dharapuram. He walked out of his house telling his parents that he would be back only after establishing himself in some career. In Chennai he stayed in a one-room bed-sit at West Mambalam (then a remote area) with lyricist Vaali and actor Srikanth. He found a small time job in the Railways and this was not sufficient to keep himself and to feed him three meals a day. One day he saw a Tamil play 'Kambar Ramayanam' enacted by his colleagues and he felt that he could do a good job and asked the secretary of the railways cultural association to give him a role to act. He was given a role of a man suffering from stomach pain. MGR then chief guest seeing this play, in his speech praised Nagesh for his performance. From then onwards Nagesh played small roles in various drama troupes and kept himself busy.
Recently he took on the mantle of producer and has produced 3 movies in Tamil (Kollywood). Out of the 3 movies he produced 2 are Box-office hits and also are critically acclaimed. His movies have gained a reputation of being decent and watchable with the wwhole family. Also as a producer, his selection of movies typically have natural storylines. He is now producing a movie named Poi (lie in english) which is directed by his mentor and veteran director K. Balachander.
Ganesan was born in Sirkali, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, India. His parents were P. Chinniah Mandraayer and Rajamani Ammal. Ganesan was married to Kamala (known also as Kamalammal). His two sons, Ramkumar and Prabhu carry on their father's legacy in filmmaking and acting. His two daughters are Shanthi and Thenmozhi. It should be noted that his grand daughter is married to the adopted son of J.Jayalalitha, once considered his political enemy.
Suffering from respiratory problems, Ganesan was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Madras on July 12, 2001. He also had been suffering from a prolonged heart ailment for about 10 years. He died at Apollo Hospital at 7:45pm (IST) on July 21, 2001. He was 74.

After the success of Sethu, Tamilnadu gave him the title or prefix honour of being addressed as "Chiyaan", named after his character in the film. Hence, the name "Chiyaan" Vikram. He won the prestigious National Film Awards of India for his performance as an undertaker in Pithamagan, 2003. Anniyan played for 150 days in Kollywood and 240 days in Tollywood.
